Demand for information on visas, residency frameworks, and tax planning has risen steadily, reflecting the seriousness with which families approach the move.
For working professionals, the IFICI regime introduced in 2024 offers a 20% special income tax rate on qualifying income in research, innovation, and technology roles. For traditional retirees, Portugal’s standard residency and tax rules still apply. Most UK expats require support on NIF registration, fiscal representation, healthcare enrolment, and tax obligations, the practical foundation of legal residency.
For families, the combination of reliable weather, safety, walkable neighbourhoods, and strong healthcare drives the decision. For professionals, the ability to earn internationally while living somewhere that prioritises time over consumption is central to the appeal.
